WhatsApp connection

Official WhatsApp Business Platform (Cloud API). Unofficial WhatsApp Web automation is not used.

    Create a Meta Business portfolio & app

    At developers.facebook.com create an app of type “Business”, add the WhatsApp product and link it to your Meta Business portfolio.

    Register a business phone number

    In WhatsApp Manager add a phone number that is NOT currently registered on the WhatsApp/WhatsApp Business app (or delete that account first), verify it by SMS/voice, and get the display name approved.

    Create a permanent access token

    Business Settings → System users → add an admin system user → assign the app and WhatsApp account → generate a token with whatsapp_business_messaging and whatsapp_business_management. Temporary 24h tokens from the API Setup page will expire.

    Enter credentials below

    Phone Number ID and WhatsApp Business Account ID are on the app's WhatsApp → API Setup page. The App Secret is under App settings → Basic.

    Configure the webhook

    WhatsApp → Configuration → Webhook: paste the Callback URL and Verify Token shown here, click Verify and save, then subscribe to the “messages” field.

    Create a notification template

    WhatsApp Manager → Message templates → new Utility template with a body like “{{1}}”. Once approved, enter its name below. It is used only when you haven't messaged the assistant in the last 24 hours.

    Authorize your number & test

    Add your personal WhatsApp number under Users & access, then message the business number. Use “Test connection” and “Send test message” below.

About personal numbers: a number in active use on the regular WhatsApp app cannot simply be connected to the Cloud API. Use a dedicated number for the assistant (recommended), or migrate an existing WhatsApp Business App number via Meta's official “coexistence” onboarding (Embedded Signup through a Tech Provider), which keeps the Business App working but has limits (e.g. some features and group chats aren't mirrored). The number you chat from stays your normal personal WhatsApp.
